The property of a hash function that turns inputs of any length into a hash value of the same fixed length
The example hash function is SHA-256. Any input gives a 256-bit hash value, which is 64 hexadecimal digits.

What is compression?
Compression means the hash value always has the same length, however short or long the input is. With SHA-256, any input becomes 256 bits, or 64 hexadecimal digits. Grow the input and check.
The inputs are a (1 char), hello world (11 chars), an English sentence (43 chars) and the letter a repeated a million times.
