The property of a hash function that, given only a hash value, finding an input that produces it is computationally infeasible
The example hash function is SHA-256. Any input gives a 256-bit hash value, which is 64 hexadecimal digits.

What is preimage resistance?
Preimage resistance means you cannot find an input that produces a given hash value just by looking at it. It is also called one-wayness because the function only runs in one direction. Try guessing the input as the attacker.
The input of the target hash is hidden as ?. Orange rows are the attacker's guesses.
